Fear Factor Challenge

WALT: Think about my purpose and reader by planning my recount.

Seriously, How much more crazier can my teacher get. He's set us up with more than 5 other challenges now this the Fear Factor. Things just got weird. Even the title alone sent chills down my spine Mr Goodwin can’t get any worse. Can he?

Trade fair recount!!!

WALT: use language that paints a picture in the mind of our reader.

Your never too young for your own bank account. How do I know well because I have my own account right here at school that I use nearly everyday. Our school topic is trade and enterprise and enterprise meaning complicated projects and trade meaning buying or selling goods or services means that for this term we are basically learning about making and creating our own businesses in school. In team 4 we had our own trade fair and I'm going to tell you more about it after in this writing.

The year 5 and 6 students at Pt England school have their own bank account to collect their chosen currency pt’s and pieces. Pt’s meaning dollars and pieces meaning cents is exactly like New Zealand dollars and cents. We have the currency of 1pt, 2pt, 20 pieces and 50 pieces these are all equal to double the amount. For example: 1pt and 2pt is equal to 2 dollars and 4 dollars it is basically just doubled.

The year five and six students had a trade fair and this is how it started. In the trade fair there are six businesses home ware, kitchen, toys, instruments, jewellery/accessories and custom stationery. We had to take a form to decide which group we were in I decided to join in the kitchen group but was told that there was too many people in this group so my second choice was jewellery and accessories. We had to get into smaller groups and decide what our products we're going to be we chose loom band keyring and loom band bracelets.

The trade fair had started and customers from different businesses started rushing in from everywhere orders went flying and the money started coming in. Orders from customers started rushing and all I could think about was how rich I was going to be. Soon enough all our order sheets had ran out and we had to start writing in orders on our Chromebook. Soon the trade fair was over and we had to stop making orders it was nearly time to go home. I had a great time at the trade fair and my experience was great.I was quite impressed with the amount of orders that we got and the money that flowed in.

I just can’t wait till week 8 when the actual market was going to come up. All the money that we will have at the market. I might just need servants to help me hold my money.

2015 Immersion Assembly

WALT: Use different types of sentences to improve writing.

Have you ever seen your teacher dressed up as a superhero?  Today was the first day of Term 2, and we had what's called our Immersion assembly. Our topic is Tinkering, tools & toys.  

As soon as the bell went class 6,7 and 8 rushed into our lines and we quickly walked to the hall. As I sat down into the hall straight away I smelt the smell of freshly baked pike-lets. That was weird. When we were sitting  down we saw a small drone helicopter. The cool thing is that it was being controlled by a phone using Bluetooth it was  in the air, it was taking photos of us. One of the prefects gave me a pike let, but we were only given them if we were sitting up.

As soon as everyone had sat down Mr Burt  welcomed us back to school and he started to talk about our topic, Tinkering, tools and toys. One of my favourite items was Team 1. They were talking about being healthy and having a healthy body. The Team one teaches played a movie about healthy food. Then they started handing out sandwiches, carrots and celery.  I was given one and it tasted delicious.

One of my other favourite items was Team 5. Their item showed what they were going to try accomplish this year in the senior block. I really liked the part when they were stomping their feet like soldiers in the army. I also liked the part when each of the teachers had to step up and say what they were going to try get their students to achieve this year.  They really did sound like soldiers.

Fun, amazing, cool this was of of the best Immersion assembly’s that I've ever been to all my life being at Pt England school. I am really looking forward to this year.  I can’t wait to find out what what we'll be doing  this year.

Task Description: Our task was to write a recount about our Immersion assembly on Monday. We had to write an introduction with only using a simple sentence, a complex sentence and a question.

My Camp Experience

WALT:Organise my ideas into paragraphs and link them together.

When I say real, you say deals,  real, deals , real, deals sorry about that I got a little carried away with that. Did you know that my school has been having a year 5 & 6 annual camp for 25 years now? Crazy you think. This year I joined in on that particular camp and I was chosen to be one of the leaders with a boy Zackariah . This is what went on.

This particular camp has been going on since 1991 which is a long time. On this camp it was going to be the last time I was going to be on that camp I had to make the most of this years one. Last year when I was a year 5 I was in the All Stars. I wasn’t a leader then but this year is different.  The activities I was looking forward to was kayaking, baking, top town or killer zone, free time in the hall and get lost known also as the (amazing race).

During camp my favorite highlight was Kayaking down at the beach with Mr Burt. You guy’s probably have already heard of kayaking but if you haven’t find out and have a go yourself. This was my first time. When we got down to the beach Mr burt took us through the  instructions first then we got to have a go ourselves. I had a go first on a double kayak with a friend then I thought I could have a go my self. I tried it. I actually ended up liking it this is definitely going to end up being one of my hobbies.

My second highlight was baking with Mrs Jarman. We were baking Auntie Dians cookies. This was my second time baking with her. First we had to get the ingredients and mix it all together. We were having fun mixing. Then when all the mixture was ready it was time to get messy. We had to make the shape and quickly put them into the oven at 105 degrees. We had to keep a close eye out for them so they didn't burn. When they came out of the oven we had to put them onto the tray for them to cool down for our morning tea.

Camp was fun and exciting for me also this being the last time. During the end of this camp I learnt that you have to make then most of something your doing for the last time. Like this camp.

Gloria's camp experience.

Walt: Make connections across a wide range of texts.

I had visited Gloria's blog today to get information about her year 5 & 6 camp experience. 

She wrote information about her feelings and what she was looking forward to and what she wasn't. There was one thing she was looking forward to which was swimming in the lagoon. Sadly I found out that there was one thing she wasn't looking forward to which was  the concert she was not a fan of performing. That was bad. 






Her story made me more exited for camp, she gave me information that sounded like it was going to be fun this year. There were some things that didn't make me feel exited. Like her nerves for the concert.

The Newspaper Challenge

WALT: Write a detailed introduction with hook and orientation.

Well this morning I thought it was just going to be a normal day then all of a sudden my teacher Mr Goodwin tells us to put our net books away. I was confused weren't we supposed to be doing our writing? Find out by reading along what happened.

So I finally found out what we were doing, we were having a newspaper challenge I was excited. Our literacy teacher handed out our materials like masking tape, scissors, and newspaper but the hard thing was that we only had 8 minutes to build a tall tower out of newspaper I thought it would be impossible. If we won the challenge we would get a prize and you had to only be in a group of 5.

The 8 minutes had started and I was startled in fact our whole team was our team all helped out we were sticking things together, cutting things and obviously making things. During the 8 minutes my team was feeling really good then all of a sudden our teacher calls out 3 minutes left, we were putting the finishing touches together it looked pretty good but were we safe. There were only ⅖ teams that had actually finished my team (Team Talita) and (Team Rosalina) our teacher came over to Rosalina’s team first I thought our team had lost their measurements came out at 57.5 and then it was our turn our came out at 58 we had won.

When our team won I was surprised and happy, our team had won. I actually learnt something it was that teamwork can be the easiest solution to making someone else happy. It was a good feeling knowing that we won as a team.

Task description: This is my recount about the newspaper challenge My task was to write a recount about the newspaper challenge we had in class, with detail and orientation. I learnt that teamwork can unlock anything and anywhere.

Duffy Theatre

Walt: I learnt how to write a produce a piece of writing and to follow the structure

After lunch on Monday our school went to see the Duffy show.  If  you don’t know what a Duffy show is it’s a show where people perform and show you that you are lucky to know that you can read. We met the characters and their names are Sienna, T.J and Antonia she actually played lots of different characters. They put on a show and encourage you to read. When you read books they can take you to places you can never imagine.

So it all started after lunch we had to line up quietly and walk to the hall. We sat down in our lines and while everyone was coming in we played simon says. Then Duffy walked in.  He introduced himself and then we sang a special song. The Duffy Song. When the song ended the show started. It all started with Sienna hating school and hating reading. Sienna needed help and Duffy wanted to help her so he went over to her house and she said to Duffy “I hate reading” Duffy was really surprised and said “ How can you not like reading, reading can take you to place’s you can never imagine. Sienna gave up and said i’m not good at anything.

One day Duffy saw Sienna walk past him when he was in the library. She hated reading so much that she didn't even know it was a library.  Sienna had nowhere to go because it was raining. She was wanting to go into the shop well she thought it was a shop but it happened  to be a library . Duffy ran out of the library with a few books and said to him “Wow you must have lot of money in your visa card” but he replied “this isn't a visa card this is my library card” she didn't even know what a library card was so Duffy showed her by taking her in the library and showing her how to read.

They asked her a quiz like what’s your favourite colour, favourite sports, favourite food, her favourite shape and the last question was what’s your favourite movie she answered Harry Potter. They found her a book about Harry Potter and she started reading as soon as she read the first paragraph in the book she fell in love with reading. Sienna started to love reading she even got her own library card. She was so in love with reading that she even showed her mum how to read and she got a library. She went home knowing that she was actually good at something. Also knowing what she loved to do gardening. The show ended.

At the end of the show I really about the fact  that I was able to read. The thought of not knowing how to read would just kill me. This Duffy show was beyond compare to all the rest I bet if you were watching the Duffy show it would encourage you to. 

I learnt that reading can take you to place's you can never imagine. I also learnt that reading can help you with your future.

My Holiday Highlight

WALT: Add a lot of detail in our writing.

A nice sunny day, the smell of fresh food. Can you guess where i’m going? If you guessed Happy Days you are correct. This is how my family decided to go Happy Days.

Why we went Happy Days

Near the end of the holidays my family was celebrating a really exciting time for my Nana’s niece. She was getting married. So  their family arranged a booking for us to go to Happy Days. I don’t want to bore you so i’m going to just skip the part of when we were on our way there. So we arrived at Happy Days ready to eat.  The bride and groom was there and their family too.

Eating Time

The Bride and Groom went to get their food first.  I just couldn’t wait to get my food. The smell of the freshly baked ham and potatoes also the smooth looking gravy. The taste of the gravy melting in your mouth together with the ham Yum Yum. After eating that I was stuffed  I didn’t feel like eating anything more.

We left Happy Days and I was so tired that I feel asleep in the car. Then when I woke up we just arrived at home. I went straight to sleepZzz.

Our task was to write a recount about our holiday highlight with a lot of details.
