Discussion Doc

Give three examples of each state of matter?
Solid
Liquid
Gas
A rock
Blood
Steam
A ball
Water
Helium
Whiteboard
Milk
Soda bubbles

What’s the difference between the three states of matter?
Solids
Liquids
Gases
Solids have tight molecules which means they can only change of they are cut or broken by force.
Liquids move, flow and they take shape of whatever their poured into. Example: Cup, bottle, Molds, Bucket,
Gases are air-like fluids which expands to fill any space available, You can only see a very small amount of gases.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you learned from this reading.
One thing I have learnt is the main differences between a solid, liquid and gas how it is formed and some things they have in common. Another thing I have learnt is how to tell if an object is a liquid, solid or gas. Another is I now have more information about how the three states of matter are created and how they can be destroyed.

Fast Rust Task

What 3 ingredients are needed for rust to occur.
Water
Oxygen
Iron

  • Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)
When Oxygen from the air mixes with water, the iron surface reacts with the oxygen mixed into the water, forming iron oxide. Iron oxide reacts with the water. It forms hydrated iron oxide - red stuff we call (rust). It continues until the iron is gone. Only metals with iron in them can rust.

  • How could you prevent something from rusting?
If you want to protect iron from getting rusted things like oil and paint can help. Oil creates a surface that will stop any oxygen from getting in.  You could also use layers of paint to stop water from getting into the cracks and to slow down the process of rusting.

  • Write 3 sentences explaining something new you’ve learned from this reading.
I have learnt that rusting doesn’t just occur due to how old the iron is,  but due to the oxygen that surrounds the iron. I’ve also learnt how the process of rusting starts and what can help to prevent rusting from happening. Another thing I have learnt from this text is the main 3 things that make rust, Iron, Oxygen and water.
